CONTROL STRATEGY
Each approach gets a set green interval. Simple, predictable, and ready for coordination.
PHASE ALLOCATION 58 s cycle
Through↰ Protected leftWALK Yellow · 3 s All-red · 2 s
Shift this controller's cycle to help a platoon of cars catch the next green.
◈Clearance is part of the cycle.Vehicle stages include 3 s yellow and at least 2 s all-red. Pedestrian clearance must finish before traffic resumes.
Changes take effect after safe clearance.
INTERSECTION CONTROL
Compare the delay from a stop-controlled junction with a traffic signal. Installation alone does not guarantee an improvement.
APPROACH GEOMETRY
Choose one street approach. Widening adds a lane in each permitted direction; a turn bay reserves the inner lane for left turns.
Road works affect capacity and vehicle lane choice. Extra pavement can move a bottleneck downstream.
VEHICLE DISPATCH / LIVE
Click a car to inspect its trip. Cyan shows its route; the amber ring marks its destination frontage.
ARRIVAL STREAMS
Gateway traffic is calibrated from dated counts where matched, otherwise estimated from road class. Local departures are weighted by mapped homes and activities. These are modeled hourly rates.
MODEL PROVENANCE
SIMULATION BOUNDARIES
Road geometry, mapped buildings, and available one-way tags come from OpenStreetMap. Building heights use mapped values or an estimated 2–4 storeys. Façades, rooftop details, trees and parked cars are artistic dressing; park outlines use mapped areas where available.
Trips are weighted toward housing, shops and workplaces. The peak-hour share (8%), destinations, turn movements and daily demand pattern are modeled assumptions.
This educational vehicle model simplifies conflict handling and excludes pedestrians, transit priority, parking, emergency vehicles, road grades and signal warrant analysis. It is not a validated engineering tool.
